blog? ...i have a blog?

i have been horrible at keeping this blog updated! ugh. back at the beginning of the year i made a personal goal to finish 52 projects for the year 2011. ideally one per week, but who are we kidding, i like to procrastinate sometimes :) i am happy to report that i am up to project number 42 and i still have a month and a half left in the year! my newest, more short term goal is to get everything uploaded here on the blog for your enjoyment. so be on the look out for that!
at the beginning of november, i took part in my first ever craft fair. (woot woot. birds of a feather shout out!) it was a great experience and has left me better prepared for my second attempt at this in december. (longbranch elementary's ladies night out) i have been a busy little bee creating cute, unique, modern and colorful typographic prints to sell for a lesser price than the majority of my products. that way i can offer something for any budget :) i'm really excited about these and hope they do well!
ok. now you are up to date! please forgive me. no hard feelings? i pinkie promise to try hard and not neglect you anymore :)

My little model

Life in general has been so busy lately! My daughter started kindergarten this year, she is in two dance classes a week and just finished up her first (and probably last) season of soccer. I work while she is in school and when she isn't, I juggle doing work from home along with personal work for myself and general mom/wife duties :)

Recently, I have been working a lot on different plaques, canvases and whatever else i can come up with to sell, not only in my etsy shop, but in local businesses and craft fairs too. ...more about this later!

Today, I was trying to take some nice photos of a canvas that I completed a week or two ago. The sun was shining in the back of our house, I had some fabric and things set up for a nice backdrop and I was ready to take pictures. My daughter, who is 5, dashes out of the room in a hurry and comes back in less than 2 minutes dressed in the first princess costume she could find. She waits around (patiently, I might add) for me to finish snapping pictures and when i am finished she proceeds to sit in the exact spot that I had been photographing the canvas. She looks up at me and says, "Aren't you going to take pictures of me, mom?"

How could I say no?! So she starts posing and smiling at the camera and I snap a few pics. She is really big into the whole modeling thing and really knows how to "ham it up" for the camera. See the pics below :)

Words can not express the feelings that I have for my little girl and pictures can't capture it either but I'm glad she likes being photographed because one day she will be all grown up and I hope to look back and remember exactly how I felt at these moments in time :)

Back to Reality

After 4 days on the beach in Florida and 7 days on the beach in St. Lucia, it is back to the real world for me! I have A LOT of projects to catch up on and it's so overwhelming that I'm having trouble deciding where to start :P

I'm trying to ease back into the swing of things by photographing and posting some projects that I didn't get to share before leaving town. You can see all of my projects in my "52 Finishes" tab but here is a little peak at my wedding projects I just added...

I hope to be posting many more projects SOON! While I do miss the beach terribly, it sure is nice to start creating things again!!

Babies, Babies, Babies

It seems like babies are every where these days! I think I am just at THE age where all of my peers and friends and cousins are having children of their own. It's so crazy to think that in my extended family alone, we will have 7 new babies by the fall! As I was standing in Babies'R'Us (buying gifts for baby showers) looking at all of the adorable bedding options, I thought to myself...this should be some inspiration for me! If I was buying bedding for a new baby the first thought I would have is "how will I coordinate this with the walls of the nursery?" So that is how I came up with my 7th project of the year! I made a "mini mural" to match one of the many bedding options out there. You can find it on my 52 Finishes page and now also in my Etsy shop! I'm sure there will be more of these to come, so be on the look out :)

A new audience

My most recent project was completed and given as a gift to a friend I have known since I was 5 years old. She and I are both getting married this year - on the same day! How can there be 365 days in a year and two friends choose the exact same date for their wedding?! Such a weird coincidence!

I was attending her bridal shower this past weekend and I wanted to give her something special that she could keep forever. That's where the painting comes in :)  It has her soon-to-be new married named painted and glittered on along with the year they will be married. I love how it turned out and I have already had a couple of requests for others. So it looks like my paintings are branching out to a new, older audience and not just kids anymore :) Although I do think I'll have to try this concept with a child's name and their birthdate ...it would look so cute in a nursery! Stay tuned for that :) You can see the pictures I posted of the completed project on my tab for my 52 finishes project! 6 complete and 46 to go!

We made it to February!

I have been so consumed by all of this wedding planning and preparation lately!  I promise I have not been slacking on my resolution :P  Most of my projects, as of late, are all things for the wedding.  I finished the invitation design and got those printed and ready to mail! I also created some cards to have on the tables at the reception.  I don't wanna give away any sneak peeks to those of you who may be attending... so I'm going to have to save these finishes and post them later!

2 weeks down... 50 still to go!

I just wrapped up my second finish of the year!  Be sure to use the link at the top of the page and check it out!  I feel like life is getting really busy right now but I want to try hard and stay on top of this challenge!

Currently, I am in the middle of completing a photo book for my daughter's 5th birthday, redesigning a website for work, trying to finalize wedding invitation designs, along with all the other regular duties of family life :)  Bring on project number 3!

52 Finishes.... Week number ONE!

Okay, so I am going to join my friend Summer on this challenge.  My goal is to have 52 creative finishes for 2011.  Here are the rules I am setting for myself:
  • As long as it is creative, it counts!
  • Projects for work do not count (boo!)
  • If I should happen to miss a week, I can do 2 projects the following week.  As long as I end the year with 52 finishes I will consider my goal met! :)
I think that covers it all.  I am hoping this goal will keep me from procrastinating on things I want to do for myself and it will hopefully add more items into my etsy shop as well!  So here it goes... you will be able to check out all of my 52 finishes as they are completed using the tab on the top of my page!
